The
NIH Multiple Project Assurance (MPA) is a public declaration by UCSB that
commits you and all UCSB faculty, researchers, staff & students to
comply with policies for the protection of human subjects before you begin
your research and to continue until you have completed it.
The
NIH MPA sets standards that will enable you to meet both ethical and legal
requirements.
Failure to comply can delay research, harm subjects, and generate
sanctions against a research investigator, a laboratory, a research
program, or the entire institution.
UCSB does not have a medical school, the facilities to
conduct medical research nor the depth of medical expertise on the HSC
required by the Office of Human Research Protections to review medical
research. Thus UCSB's Assurance prohibits our Human Subjects Committee
from reviewing and approving medical research.
